Epidemic extinction paths in complex networks.
We study the extinction of long-lived epidemics on finite complex networks induced by intrinsic noise. Applying analytical techniques to the stochastic susceptible-infected-susceptible model, we predict the distribution of large fluctuations, the most probable or optimal path through a network that leads to a disease-free state from an endemic state, and the average extinction time in general c...
متن کاملClustering of Paths in Complex Networks
Table 1: Overview of the used data set. For each configuration, the size of the associated problem space is shown (|V c| and |Ec| denote the number of nodes and edges of the problem space, |V c used | denote the number of nodes which occur in at least one of the paths, % is the the percentage of used nodes), min |p| denotes the length of the optimal solution path. The remaining columns contain ...
متن کاملOptimal paths in disordered complex networks.
We study the optimal distance in networks, l(opt), defined as the length of the path minimizing the total weight, in the presence of disorder. Disorder is introduced by assigning random weights to the links or nodes. For strong disorder, where the maximal weight along the path dominates the sum, we find that l(opt) approximately N(1/3) in both Erdos-Rényi (ER) and Watts-Strogatz (WS) networks. ...
متن کاملOscillating iteration paths in neural networks learning
In this paper we show that finding optimal combinations of learning and momentum rate for the standard backpropagation algonthm used to train neural networks involves difficult trade-offs. Gradient descent can be accelerated with a larger step size and momentum rate, but the stability of the iteration process is affected by certain combinations of parameters. We show in which cases backpropagat...
متن کاملOptimal Learning Paths in Information Networks
Each sphere of knowledge and information could be depicted as a complex mesh of correlated items. By properly exploiting these connections, innovative and more efficient navigation strategies could be defined, possibly leading to a faster learning process and an enduring retention of information. In this work we investigate how the topological structure embedding the items to be learned can aff...
